Wolseley: Real Life at Burdens

As part of my ongoing partnership with Wolseley, I was tasked with capturing a fresh set of photography for their Burdens brand to highlight their competitive edge: reliability, deep expertise, and practical, honest support. The brief was brilliantly clear, they needed a new bank of assets that felt down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and distinctly human. They wanted to move entirely away from glossy, clichéd stock photography, meaning no unrealistic poses and absolutely no “pointy fingers”.

To capture this authentic, hardworking essence, we executed two separate photoshoots: one at their busy branch in West Thurrock, and another out in the field on a live building site in Bolton. I focused on documenting real Burdens colleagues in practical, authentic scenes. To match the brand’s gritty, grounded identity, I shaped the creative direction around high contrast, strong shadows, and deep earthy tones, highlighting the reality of the trade rather than a glamourised version of it.

The result was a powerful collection of highly authentic images that reinforce Burdens as a dependable partner. Receiving immediate feedback from the client that the images had “perfect tones and depth of field” was a fantastic wrap-up to a project focused entirely on capturing the real, unfiltered story of their business.
